Pet Blog of the Week: Vick Dog Blog

Posted on September 26th, 2008

This week’s pet blog of the week is another dog blog, the Vick Dog Blog. If you guys haven’t heard of it or been there to visit, I strongly encourage you to do so.

I know that we in the pets community have all followed the progress of most of the Michael Vick pit bulls, starting with the day they were taken into captivity. The nine dogs at Vick Dog Blog are strong, healthy, happy and living life as it should be. No more dogfighting for them, thank God, and thanks to the wonderful people who took them in.

Vick Dog Blog’s subhead says, “Tails, Stories and More from the Dogs Who Survived Vick and the System.” Indeed. The posts are written by the dogs (such smart boys and girls they are) which lends a genuine good feeling to the blog. The dogs ramble on about everything from digging in the dirt to their days at the park.

The best thing about this blog, besides the fact that all these rescue pets are featured and thriving, is that it’s filled with pictures. Really good ones!

This blog is a great read and it’s so much fun to follow these dogs as they live normal, healthy lives. They all seem so happy now.

Vick Dog Blog is a great read and I hope you all go there to check up on some of the Michael Vick pit bulls.

Pet Blog of the Week: BAD RAP

Posted on August 29th, 2008

It’s time for the Pet Blog of the Week! This week, it’s a dog blog called BAD RAP: Bay Area Dog-lovers Responsible About Pit Bulls.

The BAD RAP blog is one of my favorites. As it says on the group’s website, BAD RAP is “a diverse and growing group of owners, rescuers, and supporters of the American Pit Bull Terrier.” They are one of the most highly respected pit bull rescue pet groups out there. Their animal shelters for pit bulls are highly functional, well-run, successful, and warm and caring.

The BAD RAP blog chronicles the lives of the rescue pets the group has, and is mostly concerned with educating people about pit bulls. There are posts about dogfighting and the following the Michael Vick dogs, about dog breed information, about training the dogs, and more.

Whether you are a pit bull lover or if you don’t really like pit bulls, I would encourage you to visit the BAD RAP blog. You will definitely learn something about the dog breed of pit bulls and it just might change your mind about the breed.

Pet Blog of the Week: William of Mass Destruction

Posted on August 22nd, 2008

It’s time once again for the Pet Blog of the Week! We haven’t done this in awhile because there has been so much other stuff to write about. Much to the canine counterparts’ surprise, this week’s Pet Blog of the Week is a cat blog! Yikes! At least it’s a really good cat blog: William of Mass Destruction.

We think the play on words in the title of this blog is really clever! William is this beautiful, big black cat who has a brother, Russell, and a sister, Caroline. His blog chronicles his life and all his antics, as well as those of his brother and sister. William always has a funny way of explaning cat behavior, and always seems to do stuff to get a “Mom scowl!”

This is one of our favorite pictures of William:

We love the way William explains normal kitty behavior and we think all his quirks are really funny. So if you are looking for a funny cat blog, a cat blog with lots of pictures, or a cat blog that just explains us felines, then William of Mass Destruction is a great place for you.

Purrs,
Sasha, a fellow black cat, and Theodore

Pet Blog of the Week: Daisy the Curly Cat

Posted on April 28th, 2008

For the sake of keeping us all together and making new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week. Since I missed last week I am posting on Monday instead of Friday.

This week’s Pet Blog of the Week is a cat blog: Daisy the Curly Cat. Daisy might be one of the luckiest cats this world has ever seen. Her mother takes her for walks outside in a covered stroller, she gets to play dress-up, and she is just so photogenic.

Daisy’s blog has features like Monday Mystery - where you have to guess what she is doing or what happens next, Wordless Wednesday - where some adorable photo of Daisy is posted, Sunday Comics - where Daisy gets to be featured in her own comic strip, and Fashion Friday - where she gets to play dress up.

Daisy always has the cutest pictures up on her blog and it’s always fun to play along with her Monday Mysteries. Here is our most recent favorite picture of Daisy (she is in her stroller):

Daisy\'s Cat Blog

From Daisy’s blog:

I am a dilute calico Devon Rex cat, and I was born on 2/10/04. I have very soft, curly fur. Even though my ears are big, I am very little - I weigh just 6 pounds. I have a big sister named Pixie who is also a Devon Rex. Welcome to my curly world!”

If you are looking for some adorable photos and some feline fun, be sure to check out Daisy the Curly Cat!

Hooray! Here is my award!

Pet Blog of the Week: Dogs Aye View

Posted on April 18th, 2008

For the sake of keeping us all together and making new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week.

My favorite this week is the always entertaining Dogs Aye View. Penned by two mutts, Gomer and Opie, Dogs Aye View is about their lives with DogMom and all their adventures. Their most recent adventure…Opie’s forays into the wild (he likes to run away when he sees something that catches his fancy.) Opie ran away three times in one week recently! He has pulled out his stake (that he is chained to with a dog run) and is a force to be reckoned with!

Dogs Aye View\'s Gomer and Opie

From Dogs Aye View:

We’ve got at Dog Blog in Minnesota! At “Dogs Aye View,” two adopted rescue dogs offer their unique view of life. Meet “Gomer” - the beagle-puppy-found-in-a-dumpster-that-grew-up-to-be-a-yellow-lab - and his brother Opie - the red-headed-some-kind-of-hound-that-Gomer-brought-home. Their quirky, goofy, humorous antics and neurotic, unusual and sometimes inconsistent perspective on their world is shared. Please participate and share your dogs’-eye-view with us.”

Gomer and Opie are excellent writers and will have you in stitches with their antics! For a good laugh and some good stories, visit Dogs Aye View!

Pet Blog of the Week: Dogster’s For the Love Of Dog Blog

Posted on April 11th, 2008

For the sake of keeping us all together and making new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week.

The pet blog of the week this week is the famous Dogster For the Love of Dog Blog. Dogster is wildy popular among animal-lovers and has a great mix of information, pets in the news and cute stories.

The pets who live at Dogster are Sol, Annie, Beatrice and Star. Their human, Joy, always has interesting things to stay and keeps readers very up-to-date on the pet food recalls, any pet stories in the news, and on certain animal welfare issues. Just this week Joy had a great post about a petition readers can sign to boycott Amish products until the Amish stop the abuse and practice of inhumane, horrid puppy mills.

From the blog’s About Us section:

We’re dog lovers that thought it was about time there was a fun blog to stay up-to-dog about everything canine. Our editor, Joy Ward, sniffs out the best squirrels of dog pleasure. The blog is brought to you by Dogster, Inc, makers of the hydrant-famous Dogster and the unnecessarily-feared Catster.”

Dogster always has some great conversation going and I encourage everyone to visit there often! I know I do!

Pet Blog Excellent Awards! Hooray!

Posted on April 8th, 2008

Today we received an Excellence Award from our friend Rusty at Chasing Squirrels with Rusty. We have never gotten an award before, YAY! Wags, wags, purrs, purrs. Of course the award was probably more Excellence Award

intended for us Goldens than it was for our kitty counterparts, but we might let them celebrate with us because Mom loves them too, and we love everything she loves.

There are a few rules to accepting this award:
** By accepting this Excellent Blog Award, I agree to award it to 10 more people whose blogs I find Excellent Award worthy.
** You can give the award to more people, but please award at least 10.
** Link back to the person who gave you this award.

So here goes :)

1. First, we have to give the Excellent Blog Award back to our friends at Chasing Squirrels with Rusty. It is such great entertainment reading about Rusty’s adventures in keeping the backyard a squirrel-free zone. (Or so our Mom says. She loves his cute little pictures, too, especially the ones where he is sneaking up on the ducks).

2. Next we give our Excellent Blog Award to The Adventures of Spencer. Spencer is a Golden that looks exactly like one of us (Benson) and you can just tell from his sweet little face and pictures that he is a gentle and loving creature (he is a therapy dog - we always wanted to do that). He has this awesome talent where he can get THREE tennis balls in his mouth at one time! It’s SO cool!

3. We will give the Excellent Award to Dogs Aye View. Our friends Gomer and Opie in Minnesota are two adopted rescue dogs. Our Mom calls them little Heinz 57 boys because they are mutts - adorable mutts. They have all kinds of adventures with their “DogMom.”

4. Next up: Wimsey’s Blog. Wimsey is the best-looking bloodhound we all have ever seen and our Mom always says she wants to just squeeze and hug him and watch him run around (he is of superb size and shape). Wimsey lives in Manhattan and takes frequent forays into the city’s parks. He is also a show dog.

5. Halfway done, and here comes Lab Tails. Now this human is a blessing because she has FIVE Labrador Retrievers. FIVE! Can you imagine how much their dog food costs? They have all kinds of acres to run around on and always look so happy. We want to go and visit them and run around, too!

6. Pet Strong is next on our list. There’s always something educational over there to read and sometimes there are current events postings, like pets in the news or animal welfare issues.  It’s a good blog to read and participate in our Mom says.

7. Now for another fellow Golden friend, Mogley. A Dog’s Life, the Real Story is all about Mogley the Golden and his fun life. Mogley always has so many adventures because his humans always take care of other dogs. There is usually three or four dogs there at a time and they all wrastle around and have so much fun. Mom likes to look at the pictures of Mogley and Co. when they go in the swamps and mud. We Goldens are definitely swamp-dogs!

8. Moving on, now we have The Daily Cuddle. Now this Animal Planet pet blog is strictly a photo-sharing site but I must admit the administrator always has the best pet pictures up! You can rate all the photos and submit pictures of your own to be featured on there. Our cousin Henry (the Bassett Hounds) was featured in January.

9. Now for a kitty cat blog: Daisy the Curly Cat. Daisy is a petite little kitty and her Mom always dresser her up in fun costumes. Daisy’s blog has tons of cute pictures of her and SO many people come to visit every day. Daisy even gets to go for walks in a covered stroller!

10. Finally, our Excellent Award goes to the popular Dogster’s For the Love of Dog Blog. Dogster’s has all kinds of pets in the news stories and videos for people to read. Dogster’s is inspired by four beautiful dogs!

Pet Blog of the Week: The Adventures of Spencer

Posted on March 14th, 2008

spencer.jpg

For the sake of keeping us all together and makin g new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week.

This week’s winner is our good friend, Spencer. The Adventures of Spencer: A Mascot Dog’s Blog is all about a 10-year-old Golden Retriever named, you guessed it, Spencer.

Although I am partial to Golden Retrievers myself (having two), this dog is sweet as sugar and smart as a whip and you can just tell from all his pictures that he is a great companion and loyal friend. Spencer is so easy going and smart that he is a therapy dog for cancer patients. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that…

Spencer lives in Los Angeles with his humans and spends his days napping, getting cuddles, playing with tennis balls and taking walks. Ahhh, the life of a spoiled Golden Retriever.

Spencer’s humans, wonderfully generous parents, recently started fostering a 4-month-old Golden Retriever and Spencer, patient and laid back as he is, spends much of his time showing “the kid” around and teaching her about life. They even fostered a second pup, Sunny, for a little while before she went back to the Rescue.

Spencer’s Blog, one of my favorites on the Blogroll, is written by Spencer (he’s very smart) and is refreshingly funny.  It’s one of those blogs that I look forward to reading when I get to work every day.

Plus, one of the best things about it is the pictures. Spencer’s humans take some great pictures of his Golden Retriever beauty, and the pics of the little foster dog, Jessy, will make you want to squeeze her (and Spencer, too). Be sure to check out the tennis ball pictures; Spencer can fit three tennis balls in his mouth at one time!

I encourage you to start visiting The Adventures of Spencer for some good laughs and great stories!
