So I’m happy to announce that Hill’s Pet Nutrition is reformulating Science Diet food for dogs and cats to add more natural ingredients. This is yet another major improvement to Hill’s Science Diet pet foods since the brand was launched in 1968.
The new formulations will be available in December 2012.

New Hill’s Packaging
Hill’s will reformulate Science Diet pet foods because some consumers were making product choices based primarily on set criteria for ingredients, rather than the overall promise of superior nutrition, backed by clinical research.

The new Science Diet® dog and cat food formulas will feature:

- No more chicken by-product
- No more artificial colors or flavors

Along with the new formulation, Hill’s also will introduce new packaging designs, as well as new color-coded product groupings under Life Stage, Life Style and Life Care, which will soon appear in pet stores. You can see the new packaging to the picture of the bag on the left.

I decided to see if there was a change to Hills dry cat food since my cats no longer want to eat it. My 14 yr old cat has gotten a loose stool and throws up after eating. They have been eating this brand since 2005. I will have to switch brands as neither cat wants to eat the food. I will be waiting to see if anyone else has pets that do not want to eat or that get sick after eating the new formula.
Our cat started getting sick almost as soon as we switched. We were going to try sensitive stomach food.
I’ve been feeding my cats Science Diet original formula since the 1990s. All of a sudden they seem to hate it. They’re not sick (maybe because they’ve been eating the cheaper food I put out for the “porch cats?”) but one of our older cats now considers that food a treat… I’m going to stop buying Science Diet, and I wish I had found out earlier that they had changed their formula. Maybe that’s why PetSmart kept having it on sale???
