Pet Product of the Week: Furminator Review

Posted on May 18th, 2009 in Cats, Dogs, Pet Lover Gifts, Pet Product of the Week

We were recently sent a sample of some Furminator products and we wanted to let everyone know what we thought about them. We got one sample of the Furminator deShedding tool, one bag of deShedding treats, and one deShedding shampoo and conditioner for dogs and cats.

I must say, I have never used anything like the Furminator. I was shocked at how much hair we got off of Benson and Gibson with it… It just kept coming and coming! It’s amazing! Apparently, it’s designed to remove the undercoat and loose hair in dogs and cats. It reduces shedding up to 90%, hence, and releases pets’ natural oils to provide a healthy and shiny topcoat. It also helps to reduce hairballs and matting becuase of its unique design. We definitely noticed a HUGE difference after using it for about two or three weeks.

The boys seemed to really like getting brushed with the Furminator, too. I think they liked the feel of the bristles on their coats because they both sat down right in front of me as I brushed them.

The Furminator deShedding treats are great, too. They are the perfect size, and are nutritionally balanced with Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acids to help reduce shedding. The boys ate these treats up like they were regular cookies so they must be tasty – they had no idea the treats would help them shed less!

The Furminator shampoo and conditioner we have yet to use, but I will keep you posted on what we think about that one. Overall though,  I give the Furminator deShedding tool and treats a 10/10. I would highly recommend, especially if you have long-haired animals, that you buy the deShedding brush/comb. It’s fantastic! Especially having long-haired dogs, brushing time has always been a challenge. Not anymore. I am so happy I discovered the Furminator!

Mommy and daddy are going to get one of those for me. My woofie cousin and kitty cousin both love theirs and so do their beans. We didn’t know they had deshedding treats too! mmmmmm I’ll have to try those.

As for the HSUS, wow, those are some crazy comments. I have always believed that they are for RESPONSIBLE pet ownership and RESPONSIBLE breeding. I often turned to their website for information on cats and helping integrate a semi-feral like Hendrix into our home. I had never had a cat before (only dogs) and even my hubby who grew up with cats still needed advice on one as wild as our boy.

No regular person would be allowed to have 50 dogs or cats on their property, so why shouldn’t breeders be limited as well?

The HSUS may not donate to many shelters, but I do not believe that is their goal. Their goal is educating the public and fighting for animal rights in court and on the streets and not just in the US. That costs money and when I write them a check, I understand that.

I also do not believe they want a vegan nation. They do, however, fight for rights for animals who are “food” to die without being abused or caused needless pain. There is nothing wrong with that!

We have the furminator. Mom uses it on the cats. It really does remove alot of hair and cuts down on the hairballs. (To bad for us, because we love them. It’s always a race to see who get to the mess furst, us or mom).

  4. Hey Pals,
We have had a furminator for a few years now. Mama likes using it on us before she strips on our hair. It doesn’t work too well on the cats though, or on our skinny legs. But it gets tons of hair off of our backs & neck. Glad you like yours.
